Friends Programme’s

The Friends programmes are designed by Dr Paula Barrett , an internationally recognised scholar and groundbreaking researcher in the field of child psychology.

The Programmes are designed to;

  • Build resiliency through social and emotional skills development.
  • Empower children, families and teachers.
  • Promote peer learning through play and experiential/inquiry learning.
  • Encourage support networks and positive role models

The Fun Friends Programme is for children aged 4 - 7 years of age, it consists of 8-10 weekly sessions and parental involvement is during all sessions.

The Fun Friends Group includes:

  • Group cohesion activities
  • Reflection that everyone is different
  • Recognition of own and others feelings
  • The link between thoughts, feelings and behaviour
  • The importance of good friendships
  • Feelings and body cues
  • Relaxation strategies
  • Inner helpful thoughts (Green Thoughts)
  • Coping strategies
  • Being kind and helpful
  • The importance of rewarding yourself
  • Role models and support networks

The Friends for Life Programme is for children and young people aged 8 to 12 years of age, it consists of 8-10 weekly sessions.

The Friends for Life Group includes:

  • Activities around fears, confidence and worries
  • Reflection that everyone is different
  • Recognition of own and others feelings
  • The link between thoughts, feelings and behaviour
  • The importance of good friendships
  • Feelings and body cues
  • Relaxation strategies
  • Inner helpful thoughts (self talk)
  • Positive self talk and how to achieve this
  • Coping strategies
  • Solutions techniques
  • Role models and support networks
  • The importance of rewarding for trying hard.

The Friends Youth Programme is for young people ages 13 to 17 years of age, it consists of 8-10 weekly session.

The Friends Youth Group included:

  • Group cohesion activities
  • Reflection that everyone is different
  • Activities on Self esteem
  • Recognition of own and others feelings
  • The link between thoughts, feelings and behaviour
  • The importance of good friendships
  • Feelings and body cues
  • Relaxation strategies
  • Inner helpful thoughts
  • Positive self talk and how to achieve this
  • Coping strategies
  • Solutions techniques
  • Conflict resolution
  • Role models and support networks

This training is scheduled to take Place at Barnado's Bridgeway on Friday 3rd November @ 9.30 until 4pm - The day will be looking at implementing and delivering Friends Programmes and will licence the delegate to use the model within practice for 3 years!
